Countdown is on until my next big adventure! On February 2, 2020, I will be leaving the US once more to my next temporary home, Ecuador! I'm down to 62 days left. Looking towards this trip is exciting but it is also somewhat sad, because I will be leaving for another semester, and my very last semester of undergrad for that matter! I have been rather absent this semester but next semester I intend to be much more present here, updating about my travels and adventures.
Until then, another story. We're going to take a short little throwback to, maybe, my favorite place I went in Europe (although my favorite place changes very frequently). So to lump it into one place, Venice, Italy. But, a short, inexpensive boat ride away from Venice is the CUTEST, MOST COLORFUL town in the whole entire world probably. It's called Burano, Italy.
My friends and I almost did not come here, because we were poor traveling college students who were only halfway through our trip, but we decided to go, and we were so glad we did. We loved Venice, who doesn't, but I had read somewhere about it and strongly encouraged, if you will, us to try something new. The boat pulled up to the dock and we stepped off, already in shock. The majority of the building here are brightly painted in different colors, and with the adorable Italian architecture, a perfect combination. And, since Burano is still part of Venice and it's various islands, there were still water channels and gondolas everywhere. Burano is very much a little town so much of the island is residential, but as we walked deeper into the island, we discovered a ton of tiny, wonderful shops. There were food shops, lace shops (which Burano is famous for), and those wonderful Venetian masks that you definitely need one of. All of these shops had small, inexpensive things that travel well and make great gifts for everyone back home.
There were so many cute little shops and views all over the island that made it so worth it to just walk around and take it all in. We stopped somewhere for lunch and had some delicious pasta and wine (very genuine Italian). The island is pretty tiny and I think we just about saw everything in the day that we spent there. So next time you are in Venice, consider buying a ticket to the most charming, colorful town in Italy!
How cute is this!?
